  3. HSPop faculty to participate in Fred Hutch-coordinated study of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases in overlooked populations

Gary Chan and Jason Mendoza along with several additional SPH faculty members will play a significant role in a Fred Hutch-coordinated study of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases in Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded $38.7 million in a 7-year grant to coordinate this work.

“There are a lot of gaps in our knowledge about the health of these populations and their risk factors for a variety of diseases,” said Garnet Anderson, PhD, director of Fred Hutch’s Public Health Sciences Division and holder of the Fred Hutch 40th Anniversary endowed chair. “With this grant, the National Institutes of Health is recognizing and responding to the lack of data on these populations.”
