Tony Gomez, clinical instructor of Health Systems and Population Health, received the Alex Kelter Vision Lifetime Achievement Award from the Safe States Alliance. The award honors Gomez’s invaluable contributions to violence and injury prevention in King County, Washington state and the U.S.
With a 40-year career, Gomez has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities. He wrote the nation’s first local health water park rules and developed systems evaluating water and shellfish impacts from septic systems. Gomez serves as the manager of the Violence and Injury Prevention in the Health Sciences Division of Public Health Seattle-King County (PHSKC), where he started the Violence and Injury Prevention Program. Gomez also co-leads the Statewide Drowning Prevention Network and does firearm injury prevention research.
