Dr. Karima Lalani, director of health informatics and health information management programs at the University of Washington, recently delivered a presentation entitled “Workforce Trends in Health Informatics and Information Management – A Global Perspective.” The presentation was part of the Pan-Canadian Conference on Health Information in Vancouver, B.C., sponsored by the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

Dr. Lalani joined the UW’s Department of Health Systems and Population Health in September as assistant teaching professor, and in January, she took over the role of program director of the Health Informatics and Health Information Management (HIHIM) program, where she leads both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Prior to joining the University of Washington, Karima was an assistant professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, and assistant director of the Center for Health Systems Analytics at UTHealth Houston.

A representative of CHIMA sat down for a lengthy discussion with Dr. Lalani before the presentation, which is available on the CHIMA website.
