Analysis of federal health data reveals rates have doubled between 2014 and 2022.

A new analysis of federal health data reveals self-reported rates of distress and depression among American adults who identify as transgender or gender-diverse (TGD) have more than doubled between 2014 and 2022.  Experts in health policy (including HSPOP faculty Arjee Javellana Restar ) attribute the rise to hundreds of state bills, “explicitly targeting transgender and nonbinary populations.” The findings, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, highlight the urgent need for protective policies and inclusive care for TGD individuals.
