Bio
Susan is an experienced leader in contemporary health informatics management (HIM) and brings more than 35 years experience into her classes on HIM Management, Leadership, Health Care Delivery and Electronic Health Record Technology. She also presents HIM lectures and workshops at local, state and national conferences.
Previously, she was the Service Line Leader, Information Support Services at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle/Tacoma, Washington. Additionally, Susan was HIM Department Manager at several other teaching hospitals: Harborview Medical Center and Pacific Medical Center in Seattle, WA and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Under her vision and leadership, each HIM department became recognized as providing excellent customer service to clinicians and other stakeholders. She is a former Regional Vice President for Transcriptions, Ltd., at that time, the largest medical transcription company based in the U. S.
Susan does selective consulting engagements in HIM operations improvement. She is the former President of the Washington State Health Information Management Association, former Vice Chairman of the ASTM Health Care Informatics Sub-Committee on Security and Confidentiality, Executive Board member of Residence XII, and founder of the Northwest Privacy Officers group.
Susan has been recognized with leadership awards from the VHA, the American Health Information Management Association, and the Washington State Health Information Management Program
