Obtain unofficial transcripts from each college or university where you have earned a degree or taken relevant coursework. Download unofficial transcripts or scan printed copies. Email firstname.lastname@example.org a copy of your unofficial transcript(s) from ALL institutions you’ve attended in the past with. Please use “Transcript Review” as the subject line. Then book a 15 or 30 minute advising appointment to discuss the review with the HIHIM adviser.
Draft Statement of Purpose

The HIHIM program seeks to enroll students who are academically prepared, exemplify integrity, and offer a diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and talents.
Entering cohorts include students who demonstrate an awareness of the value of overcoming adversity or disadvantage to achieve their educational goals. They are committed to representing the health informatics and health information management profession in the communities they will serve and lead.
- Explain why Health Informatics and Health Information Management (HIHIM) is critical to the field of healthcare. Include why you are personally interested in HIHIM as a career
- Describe a time when you overcame difficulties/challenges. If you experience difficulties that impact your academics while in the HIHIM program, how would you work to get support/overcome these challenges?
- What motivates your interest in healthcare in the field of HIHIM? Can you describe any personal exposure and/or career experience you have with healthcare?
The Statement of Purpose is not intended for you to share personal information that you are not comfortable providing.
Prepare UW Admissions Materials
While the HIHIM program application only requires unofficial copies of transcripts, the UW Admissions office must receive official copies of transcripts from ALL institutions you have attended in the past.
Delays in admission decisions happen when transcripts are not received by UW Admissions. We recommend sending transcripts to UW Admissions as early as possible, and we STRONGLY recommend sending official transcripts electronically.
Exams for Credit
Did you participate in Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) or A Level & AS Level exams? If so, you will likely need to send in documentation for these credits even if they appear on your transfer school transcript. Learn more:
